When you focus on a chakra, it’s very easy to bring subtle physical energies into your consciousness.
– Frederick Lenz
Chakras are energy centers in the body that play an important role in our physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Understanding this mind-body energy system is essential for becoming the most vibrant, healthy, and radiant version of yourself.
Positioned throughout your body, from the base of your spine to the crown of your head, each chakra has its own vibrational frequency, characteristic, name, and color, and governs different areas of the body.
In defining the 7 chakras and exploring the meaning of each, it is essential to understand one thing: You are energy.

Opening Meditation by Anodea Judith, Wheels of Life
Quietly you lie at peace, alive against the earth. The earth that is still, solid, unmoving. You are still, yet for every ebb and flow of breath there is movement in your body. From inner to outer and outer to inner, the path between the worlds is woven through you. The path of change.
As your chest rises, the breath moves through your nose, throat, and lungs. It ebbs and flows, as evenly and gracefully as waves upon a shore. Back and forth…empty and full…in and out.
THE SACRAL CHAKRA
We began our journey through the chakras by going down- into the Earth, into stillness and stability. We gained an understanding of our bodies, our grounding, and things associated with one. We are now and ready to introduce a new dimension: that which becomes about when one meets another and becomes two.
The second of the physical chakras is the sacral chakra which represents who we are creatively. It focuses on our sexuality, creativity, playfulness, pleasure, and joy.

To use emotions to connect with others without losing our identity, and to freely express creativity and healthy (emotional) sexuality.

Guilt, manipulation, unbalanced sex drive
Underactive Sacral Chakra
When your sacral chakra is blocked or underactive, you may be experiencing a sense of lack of control ranging from uncertainty to an inability to cope with life’s changes. When the sacral chakra becomes blocked, it often detaches you from your emotions and those around you.
Signs of an underactive sacral chakra
- Fear of Pleasure
- Lack of Creativity
- Feel Fatigued
- Lack of Desire
- Not Authentic to Yourself
Overactive Sacral Chakra
When a chakra is overactive, it means that the chakra is distributing too much energy. It is working in overdrive and bringing imbalance to the chakra. When your sacral chakra is overactive, it affects your overall well being.
If your second chakra is overactive, you may be experiencing issues of excess and conflict from thriving on drama to having unhealthy relationships. When the sacral chakra is overwhelmed with energy, it will make you feel overwhelmed. You may feel emotions more deeply, experience mood swings, or become overly dependent on others.
Signs of an overactive sacral chakra
- Emotional Overreactions
- Excessive Emotional Attachment
- Addictive Personality

Your chakras will show you what they need, as long as you find the place of stillness to listen. Let intuition be your guide on this journey. When your chakras are aligned and fully activated, your intuition works in sacred unison with your emotions and your physical body to achieve balance, contentment, and happiness in your daily life. When there is misalignment, energy is unable to flow harmoniously. Maintaining balance requires commitment, but with mindfulness and conscious practice, you hold the power to reclaim the wholeness and harmony of your mind, body, and spirit and open up a world of greater joy, possibility, and wisdom.
CHAKRAS ARE A COMPLEX YET SO BEAUTIFUL SYSTEM TO WORK WITH AND EXPLORE.
Over the next couple of weeks we’ll explore each of the seven chakras, not only to provide an understanding of their meaning and symbolism, but to explore and work through potential blockages to find an energetic balance in body and mind.
