Equipment and tools you need for a healthy living kitchen.
We’ve taken a look inside a healthy living pantry and we’ve chatted about cooking tips. What about kitchen equipment? What about the tools that you could probably prepare a meal without, but you’d rather not. The tools that make life in the kitchen a whole lot easier.
Walk into a kitchen store and you’re tempted by walls and aisles filled with the latest and greatest kitchen gadgets and tools. After succumbing to temptation, far too often, our domestic purchases meet a fate of life in a dark cabinet. With a little thought [and less impulse] you can stock your healthy kitchen with equipment that will make your life easier and time in the kitchen more efficient and, yes, even enjoyable.
These tools can help save time and make food prep less of a chore and more fun.
Vitamix A blender is at the top of the list for a reason. With a blender you can make smoothies, sauces, soups, dips, batters and more. If you’re going to buy just one kitchen appliance, make it a blender. Consider purchasing a high powered blender. It will last (we went through 3 blenders in a short period of time before purchasing a Vitamix) and it cuts down on blending time drastically.
Food Processor It’s like having a personal cooking assistant. Ready to chop, slice, dice, mince and shred at any time. You could get away with doing it all by hand but the time saving prep makes a food processor a worthy investment.
Spiralizer Spiraled veggies. Need I say more? Having a spiralizer provides endless options for creating nutritious plant based recipes and making tasty substitutions. And, lets face it, it’s fun to use.
Mixing Bowls Glass, a variety of sizes and multiple sets. Having what you need and in the size you need it makes for seamless meal prep.
Instant Pot Multi-use programmable pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, sauté, steamer, and warmer is versatile, functional and makes meal prep more convenient.
Rimmed Baking Sheets Rimmed baking sheets are perfect for easy cooking of a variety of foods and the rimmed sides prevents anything from falling to the floor. Ever roast chickpeas and have some of them roll to the floor as you put them in and take them out of the oven?
Measuring Spoons Unless you’re an guesstimate kind of cook, measuring spoons are a must have and should probably be higher up on the list. The key is to have multiple sets so you have the sizes you need when you need them. We’ve all had recipes that require more than one tablespoon right?
Measuring Cups Same as with the measuring spoons. Measuring cups are essential for recipe prep and multiple sets is much more efficient than washing the 1 cup measuring cup for different ingredients.
Immersion Blender This is a kitchen essential you don’t realize is essential until you try it. It’s quick and easy for blending small amounts and for recipe ingredients that don’t require the power of a traditional blender.
These are the kitchen tools I rely on most. Could I prepare a meal without these tools? Of course, but having these things on hand makes life so much easier. Creating a kitchen that is efficient and fun will, ultimately, make meal prep less of a chore resulting in more frequent healthy home cooked meals.
I would love to chat:
What’s missing from the list? What are your kitchen tool essentials? Do you own multiple sets of measuring spoons?
