10 Things To Do With Purpose In 10 Minutes

Be purposeful in how you spend the time in your day. Even if it’s just 10 minutes, make the most of it. If you need to relax, then do just that. Silence your phone, sit outside, read a book or take a walk. Don’t multi-task. Just let yourself relax. Whatever you decide to do with the 10 minutes give it your undivided attention and focus. The focus of the 10 minutes isn’t checking off a to-do list, getting things done or how much can I squeeze into 24 hours. The focus is using 10 minutes with purpose.

Another week of motivation, support and encouragement with the fitfam! Hanging out with you guys is always such a pleasure.

Yes, life is busy, but Jess and I always have time to say thank you for spending Tuesday with us every week!

I have a before my daughter wakes up to-do list because after she wakes up the day is hers. I’m sure she won’t leave a minute to spare. So, ironically, I don’t have an extra 10 minutes at the moment so I’m going to get right to it.

Have you ever finished something earlier than expected? Or, maybe, you’re dressed and ready for work with 10 minutes to spare before you have to leave. What do you do with those 10 minutes?

Be purposeful in how you spend the time in your day.  Even if it’s just 10 minutes, make the most of it. If you need to relax, then do just that.  Silence your phone, sit outside, read a book or take a walk.  Don’t multi-task. Just let yourself relax. Whatever you decide to do with the 10 minutes give it your undivided attention and focus.

The focus of the 10 minutes isn’t checking off a to-do list, getting things done or how much can I squeeze into 24 hours. The focus is using 10 minutes with purpose.

10 things [with purpose] to do in 10 minutes:

  1. Hang out with your kids
  2. Read
  3. Meditate
  4. Blog tasks
  5. Clean out email
  6. Update my to-do list or plan for the next day
  7. Take a walk
  8. Write in a journal
  9. Watch a sunrise or sunset
  10. Social media daily checklist tasks

We all have small amounts of “spare” time in our day. Use that time with purpose and intention. You might be surprised by how much you can accomplish in very little time.

This week is a little extra special! Jess and I have a chance to meet some of the fitfam in real life. How cool is that?

If you’re going to be at Blogfest we can’t wait to meet you.

What would you do with an “extra” 10 minutes right now?

be the best version of YOU

  1. Something I need to do more often is take walks. I run every day but I think walks are perfect for just reflecting and taking time to catch up with a friend (or my mom in this case).

  2. Great list of things to do! I can be productive when I am purposeful with my time too 🙂

  3. Great suggestions on what to do when you have ten extra minutes. I wish there were more hours in the day to complete everything you want to get accomplished on your to do list.

  4. Such good ideas, Jill. Sometimes I use the extra 10 minutes to catch up on blogs! Seems I can’t get my BlogLovin feed down these days. If I had 10 extra minutes right now, I’d probably try and paint my nails! I thinking a bright summer red!
See you in LA tomorrow!!!!!! Can’t wait!

  5. Oh great checklist!! I hadn’t thought to purposefully do these things.

  6. What a great take on the topic for this week’s link up. These are all great ideas and I feel like at times we are always so rushed that we don’t take the time to just enjoy 10 minutes. I know for me personally, it’s a great time for me to catch up on emails or more specifically clean out my inbox. Other times, if I have extra time before work, if there are dirty dishes still in the sink I like to get those cleaned. For me leaving for work with a “clean” house always puts me in a good mood. Thanks for sharing and of course hosting the link up 🙂

  7. This is such smart tips, ten minutes WITH purpose, I like to do work in intervals of uninterrupted time, but ten minutes is a great amount to do one or two tasks 🙂

  8. I love how you specified doing these things with purpose. Sometimes I find myself willy-nilly checking social media, and then I’m like “Oh, you could be doing something productive with this social media time.” Thanks for the suggestions!

  9. I love this, it’s very much my style. I’m always trying to make every minute count, and I don’t like feeling like time is “wasted.” Including meditation in there is great too!

  10. I wish I was going to Blog Fest! Have a great time.

  11. Oh man, 10 minutes is sacred time! I usually catch up with my social media accounts, or clean out my email inbox when I have a few minutes to spare. But my favorite 10 minutes spent is going on a walk with my husband and fur baby, Deacon!

  12. Power nap. That’s what I’d do because I know the next few days are going to be ca-ray-zay! Yay, BlogFest! Can’t wait to meet you!

  13. Can’t wait to see you TOMORROW! We’ll take 10 minutes to just catch up! 😀 But first…we’ll take a selfie.

  14. Oh man 10 minutes, that can either be a time suck (aka get on my phone) or I can really get something great done! Love that you added meditate. I would say meal prep 🙂

  15. I love this list, one thing I NEED to start doing is writing in a journal. I imagine doing that each night would just be relaxing, I’m putting that on my to do list!

  16. I would spend a minute pampering myself…painting my fingernails. 🙂

  17. I’m currently using my 10 minutes to read through a few of my favorite blogs, and enjoy a cup of coffee! Bliss 🙂

  18. ALWAYS have email boxes to de-clutter! Good list!

  19. Love your list Jill! It’s amazing how hard it really is to set aside 10 minutes out of the day! I usually try to play with my kids or just sit outside & enjoy the fresh air if I get a few free minutes. 🙂

  20. I don’t find those extra 10 minutes often, but when I do, they are now devoted to playing with my dog hahah! Can’t wait to meet you this week!

  21. For me it’s always to meditate or write in my journal. Those two things are most important but always seem to fall by the wayside, which isn’t good!

    1. Hi Bri. Meditating is at the top of my list when I have a little extra time. Right under time with my kids.

  22. Great list! I try to get little things done if I have some time. Although cleaning out my email took closer to an hour last weekend instead of 10 minutes 😛

    1. Hi Lauren. Email clean out is a never ending task. If you find a great system let me know!

  23. I’m a huge fan of squeezing in productive tasks into whatever spare minutes I get in my day! :] These are all great suggestions! 😀

    1. It’s amazing what you can accomplish in 10 mins with intention. Thanks Farrah!

  24. I love this! If I had an extra 10 minutes in the day I’d make sure I had a dance party with my kids! Actually, I am going to make that a priority every day…. they are only little once. Great post!

    1. Love it Hollie! A daily dance party 🙂 You’re kids will remember that forever.

  25. I’d clear out my inbox!! I am always behind/ overwhelmed with e-mails!
In fact I could probably spare 10 minutes to do that today! Have fun at the conference!

    1. Thanks Courtney. I love to read especially when it’s a book you’re totally engrossed it and don’t want to put down.

  26. In an extra 10 minutes, I’d probably squeeze in some workout 😉 Haha I didn’t wake up in time to get one done today! Bummer!

  27. Have fun at Blogfest — would be great to meet you and Jess — can’t wait to hear about it! There’s a few things on your list that I definitely need to do, but because I procrastinate so much I probably need several ten minute sessions. 🙂

  28. I love to foam roll when I have a few minutes. Calves and hamstrings are really tight right now but usually it’s my upper back.

    1. That’s awesome Pam and your body loves you for it. I should foam roll more often.

  29. My problem is that I’m either totally out of time, or I have way too much of it, and can’t prioritize! Right now, I wish I had 10 extra minutes with Alex, as i won’t see him for a while!

  30. Such a good reminder…I’ve really cut down on ‘wastes’ of time lately. Blogging will do that to you!

    1. Hi Michelle. Living with intention is the only way I have found to minimize “wastes” of time. The waste can happen so easily.

    1. Hi Amy. I take advantage of extra time with my kids whenever I can! My husband would opt for a nap 🙂

  31. all great ideas! when I have an extra 10 minutes- like a get to a meeting early I always like to pop in and say Hi to someone, whether it is in person or a nice message of some sort! 🙂 Good morning Jill, have a great day! #fitfam <3

    1. I can totally see you doing that Mary Beth. Taking time to say hi and share a smile with someone. There have probably been times when you made someone’s day brighter by doing that. much love xoxo
