Thanks to Icebreaker for sponsoring today’s post, and providing me with active wear in exchange for my review. All opinions, as always, are my own.
What better time to chat layering and staying warm for an active lifestyle during the winter than after a week off from work due to SNOWMAGEDDON. And, more snow in the forecast for this week.
I was given the opportunity to team up with Icebreaker and try out their line of merino wool winter active wear. I know what you’re thinking. Wool for running and being active? Wait. Hear me out. When I received the package I was immediately surprised by 2 things: the softness of the fabric and the slim fit. Because of those 2 things I was actually a little skeptical about how warm I was going to be when I ran outside.
I could not have been more wrong with my skepticism!
First, the comfort. Even with wearing multiple layers there wasn’t the uncomfortable feeling of being too bulky. Second, warmth. You stay warm, but not too warm that you feel like you need to take off a layer.
Layered up for a warm run:
One last thing because they deserved a mention all of their own, the merino wool Sierra Mittens. For as long as I’ve been running I’ve looked for gloves that keep my hands warm. What do I have to show for it? Not warm hands, but a drawer full of unused gloves and mittens.
The mittens are so comfortable and soft that in my mind I fully expected my hands to be cold when I went outside. Not even the slightest. The true test was when my son asked if he could borrow the mittens to shovel snow. He commented on how thin and soft they feel and asked if they would keep his hands warm. I told him, “trust me. They will.”
When he came back inside his first comment was, “I can’t explain how but my hands stayed warm.” The comfort and warmth of the merino wool baffled his engineer-type brain.
Layering up for the winter doesn’t have to be complicated, bulky or uncomfortable. This infographic breaks down all the basics of base layers, mid layers and outer layers and will help you layer up like a pro to stay stay active this winter.
