10 Ways To Drink More Water

10 Ways To Drink More Water jillconyers.com #hydrate #nutrition #health

It seems so simple and the benefits to drinking water and staying hydrated are many and yet, drinking enough water throughout the day can be a big challenge.

Over the past few months I more than doubled my water intake over the period of a day.

Here’s how:

  1. Hydrate for gut health. Drink a glass of water about 30 minutes before a meal to help with digestion.
  2. Add your own flavors. Add a slice of lemon or lime, try infused water recipes or add Nuun to your glass or bottle to give your water a boost of flavor.
  3. There’s an app for that. Try Waterlogged or Water Your Body. Or, simply set a few alerts on your phone to remind yourself to take a drink.
  4. Easy access. Always keep a big tumbler of water on your desk or a water bottle in your bag so you have no excuse. And if you work at a desk, leave the cup in plain sight so you’re constantly reminded.
  5. Include water with your order. When you’re dining out order water with your meal. You’ll hydrate AND save money.
  6. Hydrate with water-rich foods. Add cucumbers, melons, celery or even soup with a light broth to a recipe or meal.
  7. Make water a part of your morning. While your coffee brews or your breakfast is cooking drink 2-3 cups of water, first thing.
  8. Reap the benefits of drinking lemon water. Add a cup of warm lemon water to your morning ritual.
  9. Put a straw in your glass (or buy water bottles with straws.) Drink your water with a straw and you’ll take bigger gulps and drink more.
  10. Think about the benefits of how you look and feel when you’re body is hydrated.
  11. BONUS: Drink hot water. This is especially great during the cold winter months. You hydrate and stay warm. Use a Keurig without the K-cup for convenience.

Do you drink the recommended ounces of water for your body a day? What are your tips to stay hydrated?

  1. I’m so bad with getting all my water in! I find that if I don’t have a bottle beside me at all times, I won’t go out of my way to go get a cup!

  2. These are great tips! I find simply having a water bottle in front of me makes me drink more water. If it isn’t in my face, I can go HOURS without any water (bad Heather!)

  3. I love hot water with lemon and ginger. One of my favorite combinations for winter. In summer, I love chilled water with lemon and frozen raspberries. So good!

  4. I love fizzy water, so I drink a lot of that from my Sodastream. Otherwise I drink really watered down nuun. Since I don’t need the electrolytes, I use just enough for flavor.

  5. I definitely need to try some of these tips. I always have such a hard time getting enough water intake and then feel totally dehydrated. Thanks for a great post!

  6. Thanks for the reminder to drink more water! I’ve been so bad about it lately. Time to go chug! I’m always making hot water for tea in my Keurig. Love having the convenience of having a quick cup of hot water whenever I want it!

  7. I’m pretty good about drinking water throughout the day. I keep a big glass of water in my cubby at work and sip on it all day long. This might sound dumb, but I drink more when I have a straw. I need to get a top with a straw for my cup.

  8. Adding fruit to my water helps me drink more. I have one of those infusion water bottles. I don’t use it often enough!

  9. I’m actually pretty good about my water. I have a 100oz jug that I fill every night and put in the refrigerator. I make myself finish the entire thing by the end of the day!

  10. I better print out this list! My husband and I swear every single day that we are going to get on the upping of the water intake…we’re trying! We do buy fresh lemons by the dozen so we can keep fresh lemon water on hand. Just need to drink more of it before the lemons go bad!

  11. great tips! I drink water all day long & you will be happy to know I drink my hot water with lemon first thing in the morning before my coffee. I think I crave it now when I wake up ! 🙂

  12. I really like the mason jars with straws, but I was told that straws causes wrinkles.

  13. Why is it that drinking with a straw is more fun?!? I need to work on drinking more water–I can feel it in my skin when I don’t!

  14. I like the tip of hot water with lemon for winter months. I really am not the best with drinking water but have to constantly remind myself to drink more throughout the day. I do have a water bottle that you can put fruit in the bottom so it is infused water…never used it but clearly need to!

  15. I LOVE drinking water with cucumbers lately…So good. I also like to drink sparkling La Croix water to spice it up a little bit. I have to be careful with how mud water I drink, otherwise I am peeing all night…LOL! Great tips friend!

  16. I keep a water bottle with me at all times when I’m at work. Since I started doing this a little over a year ago I’ve noticed that this has made a huge difference in the amount of water that I drink each day.

  17. I’m always trying to drink more water, it’s an ongoing struggle! Drinking it hot with lemon helps me a lot when it’s cold out. In the summer I have less trouble.

  18. Great tips! I have a big mason jar that holds 4 cups of water. I aim to fill it up 3x a day and portion it out into a smaller glass so that it doesn’t seem so daunting.

  19. I drink a ton of water – over the recommended amount. I have actually had a nurse tell me that I might drink too much. But, after so many years of having this much water I’m parched if I cut down on the water.

  20. These are all great ways to keep downing the water Jill! I drink so much water when I am working and in my routine, on the weekends or when I am off, the day gets away from me and I realize that I haven’t drank nearly enough! I can totally tell when I haven’t had enough in many ways!

  21. Great tips Jill, I am gonna share this on Runners Connect. I think a lot of people do not know how to do this, I did not know there was an app for it….although of course there is haha, there is an app for everything!

  22. Greeeeat tips!! I try to get my clietns to drink at least 64 oz a day!

As for me–I’ve learned that the more fruits and veggies I eat, the more water I get in naturally–love that!

  23. great tips, Jill! Put a straw in it – that’s the easiest way for me to drink more water!

  24. I drag a water bottle or two with me every day, and have definitely been livin’ it up with the hot water/tea! It’s been so cold here lately! 😡

  25. Tons of great ideas! I try so hard to stay hydrated but it can be really hard whenI teach all day! Getting to the bathroom isn’t so easy 😉 I wish we had aides who walked around just to relieve us to use the bathroom, lol.

  26. I aim for 100 oz! I am not sure what my “recommended for body” is but 100 has always been my goal. I ALWAYS recommend using a straw or getting a camelback water bottle (the ones with the straw thing!). A study was done at my University while I was there and it proved that you drink WAY more water when you have one of those bottles as opposed to any others!

  27. I keep a water bottle by my side all day, and make sure to take sips from it. In the morning, I like to start my day with a big mug of coffee and oatmeal, which I make more watery so it’s hydrating.
