Happy Friday and welcome to the first Fitness Friday of 2015!

I love the sound of 2015. It feels energetic!

That may have to do with the fact that after a year of minimal running, a recurring injury, correcting muscle imbalances and getting stronger my fitness focus for 2015 is returning to what I love and enjoy most, running!

The change in focus for 2014 was good and it needed to happen!

A Video

Check out this inspiring video featuring an inspiring mom, friend and runner, Nancy at Little Fancy Nancy.

Feetures! performance socks created a fantastic new video that follows two ZOOMA Ambassadors as they run the 2014 ZOOMA Cape Cod 10k race.  Instead of using the video as a sales tool, Feetures! took a different approach. The video highlights the beauty of the sport of running and the moms, wives, and everyday women who have a passion for it.

That’s what it’s all about!

Makes you want to go for a run or sign up for a race doesn’t it!

A Challenge

Managing 14 in 2014 last year on my own became too much. With almost 700 runners signed up it was tough impossible to stay on top of it all and dedicate the time deserved and needed.

After giving it a lot of thought I’m so so excited to announce that instead of 15 in 2015 I’m teaming up with Tiffany at Running Hutch to bring you a year long running challenge, Run This Year 2015!

I met Tiffany last year at Blogfest. She’s wonderfully energetic and I’m looking forward to working with her to bring you runspiration, support and encouragement throughout the year!

We have the same vision for the challenge and with co-hosting there will be 2 of us motivated and driven to bring you an exciting and rewarding year long running challenge!

What is RTY 2015?

Run This Year is an online community of runners who are focused on a year long running goal. Each of us pick a number of miles that we want to hit by the end of 2015. Some will run 2,015 miles this year. Some will run 2,015 kilometers (1,252 miles).

You pick whatever mileage works for you.

What can you expect from RTY 2015?

  1. Monthly giveaways. They’ll be a small monthly prize (or 2).
  2. Monthly twitter chats.
  3. Monthly mileage logs. Lessons learned in 2014 by both of us with logging races and miles. We’re using the easiest/quickest way to keep up this kind of accountability report that will run smooth (pun intended!)
  4. Monthly newsletter. This will be for RTY Members only and include special discounts from sponsors and reminders to participate in giveaways/log miles.

How can you participate?

A Race Calendar

A race calendar for the year is still in the works, but the one date that is taken for sure is October 15.

Chad and I are planning a runcation to run one of my all time favorite events in my second most favorite city, the Chicago Marathon.

My first goal race of the year will be a spring half. I’ve narrowed it down to 2,  the Earth Day Half on April 19 or the Columbus half on May 2.

Training

What’s working for training and what I’m enjoying is a balance of 3 days of running with a combination of yoga and strength training. Balance? There was a time when all I wanted to do was run, but, as it turns out, a balance makes me a better runner.

Running in 2015! A Video A Challenge Training jillconyers.com #running #challenge #runthisyearI’m also going to try using a training journal. I’m committing to using it for at least 30 days and then deciding if it will be an ongoing part of training. I think the Believe Training Journal suits me:

The Believe journal is much more than a workout log. It’s a personal diary that will help keep you honest and motivated for running, while improving your mind and spirit alongside your body.

I’m looking forward to many things, known and unknown, in the new year but, back to training and racing is what I’m looking forward to the most!

Now you can see why I think 2015 feels so energetic!

    I have never run a Zooma race, but I was at Cape Cod this year working the Another Mother Runner booth. It was so much fun meeting all the women who were running. Hope to do it again this year.

  2. Oh I loved that video and it DID make me want to get out and run!!!! I would LOVE to run on Cape Cod. I’m still struggling with running since I had the baby, but am looking forward to getting back into running shape and enjoying running once again!

  3. My one running goal this year, is to be injury free! I’ve been dealing with some nagging achilles tendonitis in my right leg. I’m still hoping to have a course PR on the ZoomaRun Annapolis half marathon course in May! I’m taking your cue and balancing my running with yoga and core/strength training! Hoping to sign up for the RTY2015!

  4. This is really exciting! I’ll be sharing this and signing up. I also like to balance my life with yoga. But I do love my running!! Also this year I plan on helping host a first annual 5k to support our local Boys & Girls club ran by our SMART girls group. So tons of great running and volunteering this year. Happy New Year!   5. I loved 14 in 2014 – thanks so much for doing it! And it definitely made me realize that I can’t do 15 in 2015 so my goal was to focus on running miles – 500 miles to be exact! I’m going to check out Run This Year since it sounds perfect for my new goal!

    1. I was so tempted to try 15 in 2015 but was ready for a change and a different focus. Does that mean you’ll join us! you can totally do 500 miles 🙂

  9. Wow that was a ton of info in one post! I just bought that journal after seeing it everywhere. I am excited to get it. I’m intrigued by the run this year. I won’t be running that many miles as you are but I will check it out.

    1. I know! The post was kind of long but I get carried away with excitement! You can set whatever mileage goal is doable for you. Make the challenge your own and we will support you every mile along the way 🙂

  10. My running goal this year is to be more consistent with my training. Last year I was all over the place and signing up for races randomly. This year I want to really get on a schedule and just go big for those runs that I sign up for and see how well I can do! 🙂

  15. Happy New Year Jill! I loved that video. Run This Year sounds like a great way to accomplish some amazing running goals this year. I immediately did the math… it comes to about 6 miles per day. Makes me think, maybe it is something I could do… I am not much of a distance runner but maybe…

    1. You can totally do it Stephanie! And if the 2015 miles/km doesn’t work for you pick a number that is doable for you, Make the challenge your own!

  17. I love that video! It really focused on why we all love to run and I loved that part of it. Non-runners don’t really understand why runners are so passionate about their sport and how it’s about more than just running for us. It’s really a way of life! I’m really hoping to get back into running again in 2015 but agree that the change to incorporating other forms of exercise was valuable for me this year!

    I can’t wait to see what running goals you accomplish this year!

  20. I love this Jill! I’m going to sign up right away and started my new year with 5 miles on the treadmill. I’m also using the Believe journal and lovin’ it!

  24. I love that you mention balance makes you a better runner. For the long term, this could not be more true and it’s the direction I’m moving in. If you’re targeting a PR, doing nothing but running can get you there, but, if you want to run healthy for years to come, balance is key!!

    1. Balance works well for me mentally and physically. It’s so nice to be in this place right now 🙂

  25. I failed miserably at the Run This Year 2014 last year because I came no where to hitting that goal. LOL. BUT I will happily read about everyone else’s running adventures. In the meantime you guys have a lot going on this year which is COOL! I can’t wait to read all about it.

  26. I’m most looking forward to having our 2nd baby in the Spring! When my body is ready, I’m looking to sign up for my 7th full marathon 🙂

    That video is so encouraging! I need some of you running moms to live in my area! I feel like the lone ranger up early and running in the mornings here. Community is so key!

    1. You should join the challenge Amy! Set the mileage that is doable for you and make it your own! I would love to have a running group again.

      1. I’ve been thinking about joining up though I’m not sure if I will be able to keep up my mileage throughout the whole pregnancy this time! I just may join up with the challenge but have my own modified goal that allows for taking a few weeks off after baby 🙂

      2. I’m all signed up! Does it take a little while to be able to log miles after newly signing up? I tried to find my user name but it wasn’t listed yet. I’m excited to join this challenge!

  27. What a great video! I love those ladies. In a “it’s a small world” twist, I went to high school with Kelly ! My goal this year is to run a 50 miler. The idea is daunting. OK terrifying. Which is exactly why I want to do it!

    1. I so want to try again for a 50 miler but not this year. Honestly I’m still waffling on that decision. Maybe 50 in 2015?

    1. Injury free for both of us Janelle. Totally understand not wanting to bind yourself to mileage. If it helps you can set your own mileage. It doesn’t have to be 2015 miles or km.

    1. Yay! Your Run This Year will be amazing I’m sure! A twitter chat is a set time to “meet” on twitter and the hosts (Tiffany and/or I) post questions and you tweet your answer or anything else you want to add to the chat. It will look like this

  30. Fantastic video. and I love how it really gets to the heart of why lots of women choose running! Your 2015 goals seem attainable with hard work, and you are someone that clearly puts a huge effort into everything you do. I love seeing so many bloggers putting their goals on their pages this week because it inspires all of us to think further than our own personal goals. My biggest goal for the year is to stay healthy for running, and secondary to that is getting to the start line for Boston on April 20th!

    1. Stay healthy is at the top of my list! Reading about everyone’s goals inspires me. I love the energy behind every post and intention!

  32. Your plans sound so great! I did Run This Year last year and wanted for run 2014 miles but made it to 1907. This year I’m hoping to make it to 2015 but I would rather stay healthy and happy than worry too much about the number!

    1. Healthy takes priority over numbers anytime! Almost 2000 miles? You’re a running machine! If it helps you can join the challenge and set your own mileage. Make it your own 🙂

  34. I absolutely LOVE the Feetures video! I’m a little biased since I make a small cameo in it too, but Nancy and Kelly did a fantastic job. And Zooma Cape Cod is just the perfect location for a race while wearing the best running socks ever!
