Monday kicks off the #TakeTheLeap 30 Days of Yoga Challenge. Whether it’s 5 mintues i the morning or sitting at my desk at work or 1 hour in the yoga studio, I’m committing to 30 days of yoga from February 2 to March with Fit Approach and prAna.

Green Smoothies

I know I keep saying this but I love green smoothies. I now have my husband AND my daughter drinking at least one a day. I’ve been experimenting with blending different greens and have been pleasantly surprised by the beyond-spinach-and-kale varieties that work in smoothies. Recipes coming soon!

From competitive cheerleader to crossfit. My daughter, who is now 16, has been active beginning when she was 3 and started gymnastics and dance. For the last 7 years she has been a competitive cheerleader, but after the last season she decided she didn’t want to compete anymore. Determined to stay active and fit she has started Crossfit! She’s loving it [and very sore] so far. I love hearing the excitement in her voice when she talks about her workout.

Part of the membership is 3 one on one workouts to focus on learning more about crossfit and more importantly correct form.

WordPress is having problems. Before I lose everything I’m going to stop at 4 things and hit publish.

  3. I’m a huge fan of Nutzo and smoothies!!! Yoga and I aren’t getting along right now. I always stretch too far, and the last time resulted in my current injury. 🙁 but the positive in that is that I’ve reconnected with my love of martial arts now that I can’t run. There’s always a reason to smile. 🙂

  5. Those are 5 great things to smile about. I always admired cheerleaders! I am doing the February challenge by Fitful Focus and shared it with my fitness group so a few of us will be squatting a lot in February. EEK!

    1. How are the squats coming Diatta? Great challenge!

      The comp cheerleaders are amazing athletes and people would be surprised by how hard they work and the number of hours spent in the gym.

  8. I do CrossFit once a week with a trainer and I do believe that it was the key to my amazing Chicago marathon last year! I’m really thrilled with the results!

    1. That is awesome Wendy! I would love to try crossfit but it’s a matter of finding the time. What’s new right 🙂

  9. The 30 days of yoga challenge looks awesome! I haven’t practiced since those first few weeks after my son was born, this is a great incentive to jump back in!

  10. Congrats on nuttzo! I need to try it one of these days… I love the idea of a yoga challenge, but I’ve never really found a love of yoga.

    1. If you like nut butters you will love Nuttzo! I felt the same way about yoga for a very long time. I just didn’t get it. Then, I realized I was going about it with the wrong mindset. Lightbulb moment!

  13. I used to have my girls into the green smoothies but lately they have been passing…my hubby would never wrap his lips around one!!! I LOVE them!!! Watching my girls play in the snow is making me smile this week!

  18. I really only use kale and spinach as my greens for green smoothies, maybe I should mix it up? I smiled reading about your daughter, that must be so fun for both of you! When my Mom and I started to do triathlons together we really bonded over that!

    1. Hi Hayley. Try dandelion greens. They’re mild and add a hint of sweetness. You might be surprised by how good they are in a smoothie. I was 🙂

  19. I haven’t managed to convert my family to green smoothies yet, but at least I’ve got them drinking smoothies 🙂 I have to admit that I usually stick to adding in spinach, though. I tried them with kale once and… I’m still scarred to this day 😆

    1. Haha don’t be scared Amanda! What kind of Kale? Baby Kale is great to start with. Try dandelion greens. They’re mild and add a hint of sweetness. You might be surprised.

  20. One thing that made me smile with week is my new to me treadmill. I can actually go for a run whenever I want to regardless of weather!!! U have very active kids!! Rebecca is a swim coach and figure skater. Emily dances competitively and Olivia swims and practices karate!! In addition Olivia plays soccer in the summer and Rebecca rides horses several days a week and walks and trains our dog! It doesn’t have to be organized sports as long as you are moving! And btw dancers really are athletes!! Wow Emily works her butt off!!

    1. That was supposed to be I have active kids!! Using my phone as we are in our way to a skating comp 🙂

    2. Hi Jenn, no doubt dancers are athletes! Same with comp cheerleaders. They spend hours at the gym and they work their butts off!

      I love love my treadmill and we become BFFs during the winter.

  23. That Yoga challenge sounds fun! And since this is the year of yoga for me I might be joining up! I’m so happy your daughter found an activity she loves. It’s always a great feeling as a parent to see something make your child come alive. My boys love hockey and it’s exciting for me to watch them grow with it. <3

    1. Seeing her excitement about crossfit makes me so happy. We never thought she would find something she loves as much as she loved comp cheer.

  24. I love that your daughter is doing CrossFit! Very cool and very ambitious for someone her age. I so hope my kids are healthy and active as they grow up!!

    1. Allie you will be amazed by what you’re teaching your kids just by doing what you do. It may not seem like it at times but they’re watching you and taking note.

      And to think I thought they never noticed or listened 🙂 #nottrue

  25. I just can’t bring myself to try CrossFit. It’s not the workouts themselves, but the culture most CrossFit boxes foster. It’s about community, sure, but so many of the people I know who do it talk about how fast they go and how form only matters some. And as a trainer, I look at them wide-eyed and tell them, “please stop before you get hurt.”

    I just wish more was done on the local CrossFit level to encourage proper form and technique over pushing yourself. Each box is different, though. Maybe it’s just the ones around me.

    1. I know what you mean. I seriously wanted to yell stop before you get hurt! I stayed and watched my daughter’s first and second workouts and the form made me cringe. The coaches have assured me that with the included 3 one on one training sessions to focus on correct form will keep her as safe as possible.

  27. Happy Friday to you! Congrats on being a Nuttzo ambassador! Love that your daughter and husband both drink green smoothies, too. So fun when you can make healthy decisions as a family!

    My Friday is happy because my husband is coming home after being away with training for 3 weeks! I’m ecstatic 🙂 I keep my little one active by going on park walks everyday in the summer and doing strength training “together” when we can’t go outside. His take on strength training is quite interesting 🙂

    1. Hi Amy. Yay for hubby coming home! I’m all too familiar with that excitement after being married to a marine aviator who was gone for months at a time.

      1. Oh my goodness, I can’t imagine! Throughout the three weeks, when I was tempted to whine about him being gone so much I just reminded myself that some women have to go through numerous deployments. It would be so hard to parent alone for a year (or more)!

    1. You might be surprised by what they’re indirectly learning from what you do. Say no to couch potatoes 🙂

  31. good morning and happy Friday! I have been working my green smoothie recipe all week, I think I am close! 🙂 Your 30 day yoga challenge sounds like fun but it may be against doctors orders but I am going to ask. 3 weeks left of my restrictions but I am feeling so much better!
