Hi Everyone! I’m excited to be guest posting for Jill. I’m such a fan and reader of Jill’s blog.

I believe that fitness should be fun and never boring so today I am bringing you:

10 Ways to Tell You are a Fitness Enthusiast

  1. You can take a flattering gym selfie from any angle. Those florescent lights can’t hold you back from documenting your new deadlift PR. You have mastered the art of the sweaty but not too stinky pout. You have also discovered how to take these without anyone noticing.
  2. You spend hours planning race outfits. Getting your heart pumping keeps you on your cardio high, but nothing compares to the sweet satisfaction of having laid out the perfect workout gear the night before the big day. From headbands and bra right down to compression socks your fitness fashions and ability to match gear are second to none.
  3. You have a set of free weights in your car ready to use at ANY time.
  4. You own more pairs of running shoes than you own regular shoes.
  5. You are the King or Queen of Groupon. Deals for dinners, manicures or massages who needs them? You scour Groupon and discounts sites hoping to save money on race registration fees. Keeping your race schedule busy and your wallet full.
  6. You know everyone at the Gym. On any given day at any given time you know the names of at least half of the other gym go-ers. And most of them would be able to name your significant other or dog by name as well.
  7. Music is your muse. Your ipod/mp3 player is filled with music dedicated to a variety of named playlists including but not limited to: 30 Minute Run, Pump Me Up, Power Classic Hits, Rock Roll and Run or the generic March 2014.
  8. You have a subscription to 3 or more of the following: Runner’s World, Fitness, Shape, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Ideafit, Self, Muscle & Fitness.
  9. You actually know what TABATA is. Most people hear the word TABATA and get confused. You’re a fan of a :20 Work :10 rest rate but have been known to venture to a :30 Work :10 rest when you need an extra push. You may also have one of more Tabata timers on your phone.
  10. You share. Some people never notice small victories. Each month you set and reach your goals. You can get up a 5 am to run 10 miles before most people have had a cup of coffee. You know that an extra cardio class or weight session a week puts you closer to the prize. Proof that putting in the time and energy will lead to results! When others are wavering in their strength you reach out to offer them the hand they need to stay on course.

Because what really makes you a great fitness enthusiast is your ability to share your love of health and fitness with others.

Now its your turn: What would you say is #11?

Thank you Renee’! I have to confess. I’ve never used Groupon.

be the best version of YOU

  1. Additional: You always document your progress 🙂

  2. 11.) You can’t go shopping without buying new workout clothes….

  3. Love the post!!! #11 would rather wear workout gear on the weekends! I have worn my yoga pants to church on Sunday!

  4. I definitely have more running shoes than “regular” shoes! And I very very rarely wear anything other than running shoes. I’d say #11 would be that the highlight of your weekend is a big workout, not a crazy night on the town.

  5. You own more sports bras than regular bras…You have more water bottles from races than regular glasses!

  6. I def do NOT have spare weights in my car. LOL…. but it might be a good idea. Tabata is true. I thought everyone knew what it was and there have been a few times when I have been looked at kinda funny.

Knowing everyone at the gym can be a double edged sword. On one hand it is cool to belong. On the other hand, everyone wants to talk and it can slow down a workout.

    1. No weights in my car either Tricia, but that’s only because I workout at home 🙂

  7. I must not be a true fitness enthusiast:)
#4 and #9 and #10 are definitely me but the rest….Maybe because I don’t race much and I workout at home -that will be my answer. I think getting up before the crack of dawn every day to workout helps:)

  8. Agree with everything on this list! I don’t have a car, but if I did, I’d totally keep free weights in there!
#11) You get more energy from waking up at 6am to go to the gym before work than you do from sleeping in.

  9. Love the guest post! The tabata thing is funny. Even those in the HLB world can’t agree on how to pronounce it though!

  10. Yes! I am afraid to admit I am guilty of many of these especially the running shoe one. You can never have too many pairs of running shoes. right?

    1. Right Sandra! You never know when you need a spare and you have to have the right shoe for the run 🙂

  11. #2 Hahahaha. I totally do that! I am heading to vegas in a month and I already know what I will be wearing to both races (the 5K & the half)

    1. Me too Heather. Planning your outfit is part of the fun racing experience 🙂

  12. Yeah, this has been a problem for sometime. Just wondering what the extra weight in my car has to do with gas mileage! Good stuff!

  13. Definitely #4 for me and I always have a pair of running shoes in the car, just in case! Never know when you can fit in a run 🙂

    1. 4 for me too Amy! My closet looks like a running store with the boxes stacked 🙂

    1. Amanda, the things we do even when we’re sick. Enthusiast or crazy? It’s a fine line 🙂

  14. Great list!! I am guilty of running selfies, owning a ton of running shoes and pre-planning my race outfits, amongst a few others!

  15. #11 for me would be planning vacations and fitness activities together!

    1. Me too Elle! If it were up to my husband and I every family vacation would be planned around a race.

    1. Kate, I am selfie challenged! I seriously think my arms are just too short 🙂

  16. So funny. Yes, I guess I am a fitness enthusiast… but not a hardcore one as I don’t own all the traits shared above. 🙂

  17. Your closet/drawers are overflowing with workout clothes and you barely have room for your regular clothes. But who needs those when you’re in workout gear all the time anyways?

    1. I had to buy a totally separate armoire just for workout clothes. I don’t know if I should be embarrassed or proud of that fact 🙂

  18. Thanks for having me Jill! And I’m SHOCKED you haven’t used Groupon. I once got a half marathon entry fee for half off! It was life changing. 🙂

    1. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing! No idea about some of the things available with groupon. I’m not even sure how it works.

  19. Oh my gosh these are all so true! I love planning race day outfits, and having the fitness magazines come to my house. It’s like a little happy day haha. I don’t know members at the gyms name, but only because I don’t go there to workout and only to teach class. Oops!

    1. Planning race day outfits is part of the whole fun experience! Especially if I’m wearing athleta or lorna jane 🙂

  20. What, who me?!!! I have never done any of these things (sheepish grin)

  21. Great list! I like Amber’s additions too. I didn’t make this one up, but it’s something like, “You measure fun in miles.”

  22. I love the idea that number 10 is that we share. And it is so true–real fitness enthusiasts are incredibly giving people.
I fail, though–I can’t take a flattering gym selfie, and I no longer have all of the subscriptions. But I did at one time!

  23. LOVE both of you, what a great pairing! Although, I guess I am not a fitness enthusiast, as I do not do half of those…..I think I am just bias towards that one sport…..I think we know what that one is 😉 Thanks for this Renee and Jill 🙂

    1. What would you say makes you a running enthusiast…other than being super speedy 🙂

  24. Fun and light hearted post, but true 🙂 ALTHOUGH, I would have to say I’d want to add in: you have more work out clothes than real clothes, neon is a natural part of your wardrobe, and your blender bottle is your other limb 🙂

    1. Amber you are right on with these! I own more neon than any other color and I have to try to leave the house in real pants 🙂 LOVE THEM.
