Dream Big. Becoming a Personal Trainer

Dream Big. Becoming a Personal Trainer jillconyers.com #fitness #nutrition #dreams #believe

I’ve thought about it, I’ve dreamed about it, I’ve planned and then I let the big-ness of a dream overwhelm me. I was the only one standing in my way.

I’ve decided to become a NASM certified personal trainer. There! I’ve said it! It’s no longer just a dream. I’m going to make it a reality.

I’m sharing it with the world! I’m committing to this goal!

Saying it out loud makes my heart beat faster.

And the dream doesn’t stop there. I’m also getting certified as a NASM Fitness Nutrition Specialist!

Deciding to go for it was the hard part, but once the decision was made it felt right.

This is where my personal journey has lead me. From living from the heart to letting go of control to worrying less and living more. It all had to happen for me to be here, in this place, today.

And to think, Jim Carey played a part in this. Inspiration from a very unlikely source. I’m going to live my life with a little less practicality.

Where am I going with this? What is the ultimate goal?

Psychology + Fitness + Nutrition = My DREAM JOB!

My BIG goal is to combine my love of my profession with my passion for fitness and nutrition.

It is my mission to inspire and empower people and…

  • guide them through the contradictory messages of nutrition
  • motivate them to move
  • overcome emotional and mental barriers to living their best most beautiful life

That’s where my dream job equation fits. 3 components to feeling and looking your best and believing in yourself.

There’s more to this dream. At some point I also want to be a certified yoga and group fitness instructor. This is going to happen! It won’t be over night and not without work, but this will happen!

Note: I have well meaning family members that I can just see shaking their head while they read this. And they’re probably thinking, “what is she thinking?” And that is okay. I understand where they’re coming from and they mean well, but it’s not going to stop me.

Do you have a BIG dream that you’ve only thought about?  When was the last time you took a leap of faith? How did it turn out?

be the best version of YOU

  1. This is so awesome! I’m so happy for you. You are going to totally rock this. You are going to be an awesome pt.
I’ve thought about it, but the timing in my life isn’t right, so I will reassess in the future.
My biggest goal is to start renovating the house, which is why I’m started part time work. It’s a new change for me but all good things will come out of it, as I know all good things will come out of this for you.

  2. That is awesome Jill! I started my path to the NASM certification this month too. At the moment, I am following the course Physical Trainer, which here in Europe is a preparation for the PT certification.
    Success!!

  3. Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me know the images weren’t showing. They were the main piece of the entire blog! LOL. I was able to get it fixed. Thanks again.

  4. My big dream has been to become a health coach. I recently took the plunge and started the ACE Health Coach program!

  5. Congrats on your new goal and I know you would do well. I came in here also to check that you are not spending over $1000 to be certified. I had to tell someone last week, not to take a certain coaching program that wanted to charge her $2100. She was about to lose money on an exam that could be done at a cheaper price.

  6. Amazing!!! Congratulations on deciding to pursue your dream. You won’t regret it 🙂

If you need any advice, I just passed the NASM exam – but I’m sure you won’t need any help! xo

    1. Hi Whitney and thank you! I would love any advice! Did you use the CPT self study or the self study with live workshop?

      Congratulations for passing the exam!

        1. Great. That’s what I was thinking. I may bug you a time or 2 with questions or a pep talk when I’m overwhelmed 🙂

          Thanks!

  7. So excited for you! Congrats on the decision – I love that you are chasing this dream!

  8. I stumbled across your blog today and joined the link up. First, I want to say CONGRATS on the decision to go for your certifications! That is great and you will love it!

I just changed jobs within my company and have thought about doing it for the last 3 yrs. I finally did and I LOVE IT!! It is much more geared toward my personality and will help me in future endeavors.

Today’s blog on my page isn’t health oriented but my overall message and many of my blogs are. I hope it is OK since today’s isn’t. It is more for fun and entertainment today.

  9. Congratulations Jill! NASM is an excellent certification and I’m positive you will be a fantastic trainer!!! Good luck in pursuing your dream. Go for it girl!!!

  10. I’m so excited for you Jill!!! I think that you will make an amazing trainer and nutrition specialist. And I love that quote from Jim Carey. Really sums it up well.

  11. Yay! Congrats on making the decision and commitment. It’s so important to keep chasing after our dreams and you are doing that.

  12. YAY! Good for you! I’m certified through NASM and they have an amazing program. I also got their Weight Loss Specialist cert and the FNS is on my list next! I might recommend spacing them out at least a little bit though since they’re so expensive, also the second cert will count as your CEU’s for another 2 years of being certified. Other then that I know you’re gonna rock both of them!!

  13. You know, it’s worth it to go after your dreams rather than live the rest of your life wondering “what if”! Risk and change is so scary – like you mentioned, it’s fear disguised as practicality. It’s great that you are sharing this with all of your blog readers because that does make it real. Sharing our dreams with others keeps us accountable!

Being a stay-at-home mom was a huge leap of faith for me and it has turned out so well, I can’t imagine life any other way! As for current dreams, I’m not even at a place where I’m ready to share them yet – still in that contemplating their practicality stage (probably fear!). I hope one day I can share my dreams with the world like you did! I’m praying about my dreams now and if they are God’s will, may they be done!

  14. Congrats Jill!!! that’s so awesome! I got NASM certified earlier this year, and I will say that it is no joke!! Lots to learn, but so great.

I definitely recommend selecting the program that offers the e-training component. It makes a WORLD of difference. I started out just using the text book and I was lost. THe e-training makes it way better.

Good luck girl!! Feel free to ping me if you have questions about the training!

  15. YAY! Lmk if you have any questions, so glad I chose to go through NASM!

  16. Congrats on your choice. This is something I am aspiring to as well. I just need to do it and stop thinking about it but sometimes that first step can be the toughest. Congrats again. Happy for you.

  17. Good for you Jill! Good luck on your journey to become a trainer

  28. Woohoo! This sounds perfect for you. I love that you are doing the nutrition too. I hate when trainers act like they can tell you what to eat to push their supplements.

  29. JILL JSDLFJSDLF I AM SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED FOR YOU, SERIOUSLY THIS IS AMAZING! This is such a big leap of faith, BUT I couldn’t imagine a more perfect leap for you. “If your dreams don’t scare you, then they aren’t big enough” For those who don’t support you, then they clearly don’t understand how much of a love/passion you have for this, and when you have a passion this big, it needs to be shared. I wish I could somehow combine my promotion of positive body image and IBS awareness into a job….

  30. YAY! This is WONDERFUL news! I am so happy for you, and I KNOW you will do it now you have shared it with us 🙂 You are going to make one heck of a personal trainer! You have made me want to dream even bigger, do whatever it is we desire the most 🙂

  31. Congratulations on your decision! This will be an amazing journey for you, regardless of where you end up (hey, look at me!). But NASM is a fantastic association, and you are without a doubt going to love the process and be successful regardless the direction that it takes you!

  32. YEahhhhhhh!!!!! JiIll I’m so excited for you, you are going to be a great trainer! You’ve made if official and you will do fantastic! I’m interested in hearing more about the nutrition aspect that sounds really interesting.

  33. AH so excited for you! This would be a big dream of mine as well- but to do that will mean stepping out of my comfort zone where I am now because it would not be possible with the schedule at my current job. Plus, I am working on being my first “client” so to speak.
