The Ultimate Coffee Date #1

Every now and then a coffee date is exactly what a girl needs.

Good morning and welcome to the first Ultimate Coffee Date Link-Up.

Order your favorite coffee or tea and maybe a pastry or scone too, sit down, take a deep breath and relax.

No rush. We have plenty of time.

First, I would say hi and I would ask you how you’ve been and what have you been up to.

If we were having coffee this morning I would tell you how excited I am to start coaching a Girls on the Run group to run a 5K in May! Their vision is a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. How cool is that? I can’t wait to see the faces of the girls crossing the finish line for the first time and possibly begin a lifelong love of running. This is my little way of giving back what running has given to me.

If we were having coffee this morning I would tell you I was bitten by a dog last week during a fun and I’ve never been so scared in my entire life. It was a dog on a leash but he was too big for the kid to control. Bit me right on the butt! I’ve never run home so fast and, it’s kind of funny now, but one of the first things I thought of was damn he’s going to tear my favorite Lorna Jane tights. That was on a Tuesday. I was supposed to go for another run on Thursday but I didn’t…out of fear. I’m running again and not fearful but there is one route near my neighborhood I will never run again. Have you ever been bitten by a dog or any other animal during a run?

If we were having coffee this morning I would tell you the strangest thing is happening. No, this has gone way beyond strange to creepy. Some guy has emailed me drawings he has done of me based on photos on my blog. This has happened twice and in the last one he included more than a dozen photos of me he has copied from my blog. Creepy right! If he does it again I will be contacting the police. Do you know if there is anything they will and can do?

If we were having coffee this morning I would tell you, remember the movie, Unbreakable, that I mentioned earlier this week, well, I won’t totally give it away but the winner won with a time of 15:07:04. In the process, he crushed Scott Jurek’s course record by nearly half an hour. To win, he had to beat ultra ultrarunners Anton Krupicka and Kilian Jornet. 100 miles in 15 hours is so unbelievably amazing and inspires me beyond words. Running is bringing me so much joy, happiness and peace of mind right now. How’s running going for you?

If we were having coffee this morning I would tell you, I need a haircut and I’m thinking about going shorter. My husband and son say the shorter the better. I’m thinking about something like this. I want a low maintenance style. What do you think? Should I do it? Bangs or no bangs?

Unfortunately it’s time for us to leave. Kids to pick up, errands to run, you know…life happens. I had a wonderful time. Make sure it’s on your calendar for us to meet again.

If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

    1. Happy to have you join us for coffee Molly! The next coffee date is May 3 🙂

  1. I was a GOTR coach for a year in college… it was SO rewarding! Actually, now that some circumstances in my life are changing… I might be able to do it again! Can’t wait to hear all about it 🙂

    1. Hi Cassie, it’s been so cool to watch the girls grow as runners. I’m excited about the race!

  2. Being bitten by a dog would scare me off that route too, far out. I bet that kid felt bad about it too.
One thing I never have to worry about when I run my trails, dogs aren’t allowed in the park.
I just got my hair chopped off, and I love it. I think you would totally rock the Sandra Bullock cut. Fringes/bangs take forever to grow out and surprisingly have a lot of maintenance, if it were me don’t do it.

    1. Hi Matilda, the kids didn’t seem to feel bad at all. I’m getting my haircut today and still haven’t decided LOL I know from past hairstyles that short doesn’t always mean low maintenance.

  3. Short with bangs!! It’ll take like 2 seconds to wash and another 2 seconds to blow dry and style- totally low maintenance!

No, I’ve never been bitten by an animal while running…that would freak me out! My running is going okay. the good news is my left foot isn’t acting up- I think the new shoes and time off it really helped. It’s time to amp things up!

    1. Hi Elisabet, the whole dog thing DID freak me out and I’m still a little jumpy even when I run past a yard with a barking dog in it. Getting my hair cut today. I still haven’t decided LOL

  4. Shorter!!! No maintenance, simplify your life leaves time for other things!!

    1. Shorter doesn’t always mean low maintenance. No maintenance? Doesn’t exist.

  5. That is REALLY creepy about the guy with the drawings! That’s definitely something I worry about with making my blog so public…we really let people into our lives.
I love the hair on the gal that played Jane on Melrose Place. So cute and spunky- and would be easy maintenance and stay off your face during your runs.
    ash @sn4g

    1. Hi Ash, the creepy guy hasn’t returned. I’m hoping I’ve seen the last of him. Maybe he’s bored with my not replying.

    1. Caren, I’m getting my haircut today! I remembered your comment and came back to look at the JA photo. I think that’s the style I want depending on what my stylist says about maintenance. Thanks!

  6. Oh my goodness! So glad you are ok. Love the hair styles-I have been letting mine grow and now keep looking at short cuts…lol

  7. I love the second hairstyle. So pretty and easy to fix.
I would tell you I have my second 5k later this month and I threw my back out. I haven’t been able to run so I am freaking out!

    1. Hi Jenny, how is your back? Were you able to run the 5K or has it not happened yet?

  8. I’d tell you I’m so glad you started this linkup! Thanks for hosting 🙂

    1. It’s been my pleasure Amanda! Thanks for joining. The next coffee date is May 3 🙂

  9. This will be my first link up but it looks like so much fun! I’m going through a phase where I’m considering cutting all of my hair off. Those cuts look very easy and cute!

    1. Hi Jessica, thanks for meeting us for coffee! I’m getting my hair cut today and still haven’t decided LOL Mark your calendar! The next coffee date is May 3 🙂

  10. Yay I have so much I shared and love hearing everyone’s!

    1. Hi Rosi, I’m so glad you decided to join us. The next coffee date is May 3 🙂

  11. Yikes – I can’t believe that a dog bit you. Not cool at all!!!
I skipped the section on Unbreakable because after you talked about it earlier I ordered it and plan to watch it before my 50 in May!!!

    1. Hi Kim, sorry about the spoiler! Did you watch the movie yet? Yeah, the dog think freaked me out!

  12. I am SO afraid of dogs, always have been. I’ve never actually been bitten. There was this dog in college that would terrorize me (I called it “the evil beast”) and there are some in my neighborhood that the family just lets run. I rarely go for outdoor walks anymore. Sometimes I don’t dare go get the mail if our next door neighbor has their dog out.

It seems the stereotype is that guys like long hair, but my hubby would be happy if mine was shorter. I’ve always had bangs, so I can’t go without them…although I wish I could!

    1. Hi JenB, my husband thinks the shorter the better. I also think he thinks that shorter means less time for me to get dressed LOL That’s not always the case with short hair.

  13. I can’t believe a dog bit you on the butt while you were running!! That would scare the crap out of me! I was almost attacked once by a dog while running, but I had mace and sprayed him with it! Random!

    1. Hi Amber, yeah, the dog think freaked me out! I’m still a little jumpy even when I run past a yard with a barking dog in it. Ugh!

      How are you?

  14. That this is a great idea and you should do it more than once a month! I get tired of the same old topics for link ups and this is fresh and new! So that’s cool.

    1. HI Amanda, we’re thinking about more than once a month after the next link up on May 5. We’re not sure if people would get bored with more than once a month and stop joining. Maybe a vote/poll with the next link up?

  15. Oh my gosh Jill that is so creepy about the guy – I would report it! I’m always leery of kids walking dogs when I run for just the reason of what happened to you. I would tell you that I just had 2 and a half inches cut off and I’m thinking of going even shorter – can’t wait to see what you decide!

    1. Hi Michelle, I’ve run past dogs a million times but there was something about this dog that I knew there was going to be a problem. Still freaks me out even to run past a yard with a barking dog in it. I’m getting my hair cut today and I still haven’t decided LOL

  16. Oh what a fun link up! I’ll have to join in next week! The guy with the pictures…seriously creepy and I really think you should contact the police. I have no idea if they can do anything but I’d still contact them. And stay safe! I can’t wait to see your new haircut! If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am excited about my new running shoes…they are BRIGHT NEON YELLOW!!!! 🙂 Have a great weekend Jill!

    1. Hi Mindy, I talked to the police and just as I expected there is very little the can do about it at this point. I haven’t heard from him in a while. Maybe he got bored with my not replying. Getting my hair cut today and still haven’t decided LOL

  17. Being bit by a dog twice when I was little, I never run past a dog- especially when I kid had the leash. I have never been bit while on a run. However, my dog has lunged at runners. Luckily each time my husband had a good hold on the least and was able able to yank her back. They were very close calls and very scary for us and the runners. The creeper sounds very scary too. If it happens again, you should go to the cops. And since he is a fan of your blog, obviously, he will see this post and hopefully get the hint and back off! Good luck to you. Be safe 🙂

    1. Hi Mary, maybe you’re right! I haven’t heard from creepy drawing guy since this post. Or maybe it’s because I haven’t replied to any of his emails.

  18. I am having coffee today with all of you and I love it!! We have a great link up going on and I love spending time virtually chatting 🙂 Happy Saturday

  19. If we were to have coffee I’d tell you that I love short cuts on other people but I always regret them on myself. I’d also tell you not to wait until “next time” but to contact the police now about the creeper.

    1. Hi Kristen, I thought about what you said and contacted the police. As I expected there isn’t anything they can do at this point but I’m supposed to start keeping everything and report back if it continues. Ugh. Hopefully it won’t. Thanks!

  20. I would share that I’m in taper for my half marathon next weekend and I’m going CRAZY! my legs feel antsy and I’m getting a little annoyed. haha.

    1. Hi Caroline, if you were tapering does that mean you’ve run the race? How did it go? Tapering is one fo the hardest parts of training!

  21. LOVE Girls on the Run and it is amazing you are a coach! I was a buddy runner once (running with a girl who had nobody she could run with) and it was amazing. Their smiles are priceless!

Sorry about the dog, that sucks! We live out in the country and it is beautiful to run here, but I got chased down by dogs several times. I stopped running here and always drive into the city (20 minutes away) in order to run. It sucks, but even though I’m a dog lover and dog owner, I’m scared of free roaming dogs.

  22. I love that you are volunteering with GOTR! It is such an amazing organization and I have been looking into getting involved myself!
And thank you for a great link up! It was great catching up over coffee with you!

    1. Hi Brie, so happy to have you join us for coffee and a chat! I’m loving watching the girls grow as runners! The next Coffee Date is Saturday May 3 🙂

  23. Oh my goodness! I’m always a little bit afraid of wildlife and dogs while on my runs, hope the butt gets feeling better quick. I would tell you to cut the hair, I cut mine and LOVE it!

  24. I really like haircut number two, but I did that once and it was NOT low maintenance. Of course I have a cowlick and super flat, straight hair, but to get it to look like hers would require a blow dryer and a lot of product. I am so glad you are running again and loving it! Don’t let that dog give you fear! I am running in Boston again this year because I don’t want people (or animals) to be able to keep us from things that we love! Go out there and do what you love!

    1. I’m running but a little bit of the fear is still there even when I run past a yard with a barking dog in it and I know there is an invisible fence. Ugh! I’m hoping it will pass. Short hair doesn’t necessarily mean low maintenance. I’m getting it cut today and still haven’t decided LOL

      You’re going to rock Boston!

  25. What a week for you between the dog bite and the creeper! Both scary. The creeper thing happened to my sister. I think she did go to the cops but not sure they were able to do much. But this was quite a few years ago. Things may have changed. I think you would love nice with short hair and you could probably pull off bangs too!

    1. Hi Tara, I contacted the police and as I expected there isn’t much they can do at this point. It’s nothing to joke about but I keep thinking of Law and Order SVU episodes.

  26. Oh, gosh! Between the dog and the creep, I’d want to make sure you are really OK! I’ve always had short hair and bangs — just remember that bangs are a huge comittment because they take a while to grow out.

    1. Still a little jumpy with dogs but all in all ok and I haven’t heard from the creepy drawing guy. Maybe he read this post and got the message? Thanks!!

  27. i need a hair cut too! can we go have a spa day together? and wow, a dog bite? those are scary! friend, are you ok?? good luck with the training. miss you

  28. Wow, that is creepy! I sometimes worry about the negative side of sharing on a blog and worry about crazy people!!
I think we’d have fun chatty over coffee. Lots to talk about with running, fitness and food 🙂

  29. Love this! I just chopped my hair off too- not super short but still feels good to let that go!

    1. Hi Heather, I’m getting my hair cut today and still haven’t decided LOL I hope you will join us for the next link up on Saturday May 3 🙂

  30. Oh my gosh… I can’t believe about the dog so scary! If were were having coffee I’d tell you that I’m getting my haircut soon and can’t wait! I love going a bit shorter!

    1. Hi Laura, the dog thing still freaks me out a little. I’m getting my hair cut today and still haven’t decided LOL

  31. I’m afraid of big dogs, so that would definitely deter me from going from another run. How scarey! That is so awesome that you’re going to train girls for Girls on the Run! It’s a great program from what I hear. Glad everything works! No kinks this morning. 🙂

    1. Hi Nikki, the dog thing still freaks me out a little. I’m jumpy when I run past a yard with a barking dog in it. Hopefully the fear will pass. I’m loving watching the girls grow as runners 🙂

  32. I’d tell you that I’m getting my hair cut today and I’m looking to change it up too! You can never go wrong with a Jen Aniston cut IMHO. 🙂

    1. I agree Angela! I’m getting my hair cut today and still haven’t decided 🙂

  33. I really really like those short cuts. I am seriously considering cutting off my hair as well – it’s too much in the morning. Thanks for hosting this meet up. Very relaxing.

  34. Oh my gosh, Jill that is so creepy. You should definitely contact the police. And thank you for giving us a bit of the finale of the movie Unbreakable. I love Anton Kupricka so definitely going to get it now. Thank you for co-hosting. And seriously call the police if it happens again!

    1. Hi Maria, I thought about what you said and called the police. As I expected there really isn’t much they can do at this point but I feel better about at least putting it on their radar. Did you watch the movie yet? AK is AMAZING!
