Tips To Stay Healthy and Fit During the Holiday Season

Stay Healthy AND Enjoy All the Things You Love About the Holiday Season!

As a Sweat Pink Ambassador I am participating in the Holiday Fit List campaign sponsored by Fit Approach and Lorna Jane. All opinions are my own.

It starts right around Thanksgiving and continues into the new year. The internal dialogue as I debate what to eat, when to indulge a little and sticking to a workout routine all during the wonderfully busy holiday season. Sound familiar?

Tips to Stay Healthy and Fit During the Holiday Season

1. Don’t deprive yourself of the things you enjoy most about the holiday season. Find balance, stay consistent and allow yourself a little wiggle room.

2. Stick to your routine as much as possible and have a plan to be active at least 4 days per week. Acknowledge that things will come up that may interfere with your workout and have a backup plan in mind. Have a set alternate time or substitute a different activity. Running is always my preference but my go-to alternate workout is yoga. It’s relaxing, strength building and you don’t need a lot of time.

3. Indulge wisely. A day off doesn’t have to mean a week off. When you indulge in foods you don’t normally eat make sure you thoroughly enjoy it and don’t beat yourself up over it.

4. Provide healthy options. Lighten up a holiday favorite and avoid processed and refined ingredients. I have picked out a few recipes from the Move Over Sugar Recipe Book to make for family and friends. The Spiced Apple & Walnut Bake will be on the menu for Christmas morning. I’m also making a Natural Muesli and Healthy Oatmeal Scones all from the same recipe book.

5. Give yourself a little me time. Plan for times when you need a break from the busyness of the season. Schedule a hair appointment, a massage or mani-pedi. Not much time? Read a book, have a cup of hot tea or take a bubble bath.

Lorna Jane gifted each blogger of the campaign an outfit so we all enjoyed a little shopping.

I chose the Jodi Full Length Tight specifically for something comfortable to wear for yoga. The fit, comfort and fabric are perfect for any yoga session! And the bonus is they’re great as a base layer for winter running. I picked the Dana Short Sleeve Excel for the same reason, something comfortable to wear for yoga. And finally the Elle Bra.  I picked this bra simply because I loved the design and color. It’s super comfortable and I can see myself wearing it for workouts and day to day casual. It was hard to choose so I added a few other things to my Christmas List. (Hint to my husband and children)

    1. Good for you not only sticking to a routine but also amping it up! Enjoy the parties 🙂

  3. Great tips Jill!! I love the idea of a little more “me” time! I think when I take time for myself, I end up forgetting to eat or justifying less than stellar options to save time…..not smart!

    I love your outfit too!!

    1. Hi Kalee, the me time is one of the most important to stay sane! Maybe it seems more important because there is a good chance we won’t make ME a priority. Thanks!

  4. ME TIME is SOOOO important! Even if it’s to wrap presents! If you need to be alone, do it, so then you can stay SANE!!!!

  5. Great tips! This is my first holiday season on my journey so I’m actively looking for ideas. I don’t know what the family is serving so I don’t know how to lighten up anything.

  6. Great tips! I do indulge a little, but I stick with my workout routine and plan plenty of healthy meals.

  7. I love the outfit you chose!

Your tips are awesome and are so inline with exactly how I try to live my life throughout the holiday season!

  10. Getting into my ONEz and watching movies with SuperFit (and catching up on The Walking Dead) 🙂

  11. Great practical tips. I love reading self-improvement books. It’s how I take time for myself and also gives me a motivating boost to stick with my goals.

    1. Hi Kimberly. Do you have favorite self improvement books you would recommend? Time for yourself guilt free is so important all year long!

      1. Some recent favorites:
The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy
I Thought it Was Just Me by Brene Brown
        Daring Greatly by Brene Brown
The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson
        Replenish by Lisa Grace Byrne

  12. Ooh, what a great outfit! I love your tips. Don’t deprive yourself is so true, and the routine, and really, all of them. 🙂

    1. Thanks Laura. I tried the deprivation. Guess what. It doesn’t work! Duh!

  13. Great tips Jill as always!! I struggle with the “just one day” piece…I over extend it and then feel guilty! I am hoping to get in a massage as a little me time this season!!

    1. A massage sounds wonderful! How easily one day can turn into one week. Ugh! Fortunately not as easy as it used to be 🙂

  14. Great common sense tips. Thanks. I go for a long run/walk on the beach for some alone time or take the pups for an extra walk. We both win.

    1. And yes it’s possible. I started with keeping it simple for Thanksgiving and it turned out great! Now for a stress free Christmas!

  15. I love the idea of indulging wisely. It’s so easy to slip into a day becomes a week becomes a month…but it doesn’t have to be like that.

Love the Lorna Jane outfit you picked–great colors!

    1. Oh how easily a day becomes a week! Ugh! Fortunately not as easy as it used to be 🙂

    1. I’ve tried to get into meditating but struggle with turning my brain off and focusing.
