It’s Time to Celebrate 13 in 2013!

 Ending 13 in 2013 with a bang!

13 in 2013

Miles. Effort. Determination. What better reason to celebrate!

Join Jen and I as we celebrate all 800+ runners that joined 13 in 2013! You guys have amazed me with your accomplishments and determination. I’ve read stories of injuries but not giving up, going beyond 13 races, new runners, and a lot of firsts. You’ve inspired me to continue a journey I started with 12 in 2012.

I didn’t accomplish my 13 races goal due to an injury that stopped me from running for 3 months and also due to a training mistake that won’t happen again. Disappointed? You bet. Did I give up? Not even close! Do I still love running? More than ever. While I didn’t accomplish my 13 in 2013 goal I accomplished so much more mentally. I overcame obstacles that I didn’t even realize were such major obstacles. I think this year needed to happen as it did for me to become a better runner [and all around happier person]. Sometimes we have to learn the hard way and while I would have loved to have accomplished my goal the trade off was worth it. Don’t you think?

      How are you?

  16. I managed to get 5 races in this year, but like you, had to deal with injuries for the middle part of the year. I can’t wait to do 14 races in 2014!

  17. I love that you said that when you were injured it taught you so much. I have the same exact feelings about myself and my own!
If things start going my way, I fully intend on joining up on your 14 in 2014, but I will be one of your later registrations in a few months when I know a bit more on what to plan on!

    1. Hi Kristy. I didn’t reach my goal of 13 in 2013 but in exchange I learned so much about myself. As disappointing as it was with running I think the lessons learned needed to happen for me to happily move forward. Keep me updated on how you’re doing.

Later is better than never 🙂

  22. Blown away by how many people got involved with this! So cool 😉

  23. I love this 🙂 I am new to the running world and I wasn’t aware of the 13 in 2013 so I have signed up for the 14 in 2014! Heres to a great year of running!!!!!!! <3

    1. Yay! Welcome Heather!

Cheers to running in 2014! Did you request to join the FB group?

  24. I’m signed up for 14 in 2014! In 2013 I got married which definitely distracted me from running a lot, but this year I plan on running all year long! And since I’m run streaking I’ll definitely do the virtual run too!

    1. Yay! Welcome Kristen! Congratulations! I can see why a little thing like a wedding my be a bit distracting 🙂

  25. Got in 9 miles today!!!

  26. I started out the year determined to do this then got really sick from Jan. 13th to May 7th with bronchitis which turned into pneumonia and then a really bad infection in my throat and lungs. I hated missing races I had already signed up for because this was my year to get healthy and work on my asthma, not barely be able to walk from one room to the next. I was still determined to try to do my 13 in 2013 and started running again in June. As of Dec. 8th, I completed my 15th race with my best PR. I feel the best I have in years especially with my asthma. A year ago I ran the Hot Chocolate Run in 49 minutes. After being sick for four months, I could barely do a mile in 23 minutes however my 15th race for 2013 I did it in 40 minutes and 10 seconds!! Running has given me inspiration, the chance to beat personal challenges, given me the acceptance that I am my own worst enemy and can sabotage myself when I don’t think of it, have met lots of new friends this year and inspired many new runners to start. Running has opened so many doors in 2013 and can’t wait to see what it brings me in 2014!!

    1. What an inspiring story Sheryl. Thank you so much for sharing it with me.

2014 is going to be epic!

  27. Aimee Price says:

  29. It seems like just yesterday I was signing up for 13 races in 2013! Crazy how fast that went! I overcame injuries & heartache BUT I finished strong 🙂 thanks for a great challenge!!

    1. Yay! Congrats on your half. Running fact, you never forget your first 🙂

Happy New Year Courtney! I have a feeling it’s going to be fabulous!

  30. I loved 13 in 13 and am super excited for 14 in 14 I am however a little nervous about finding enough virtual races to finish this year. Without knowing where I will be after May I can not commit to races that are at a location.

    1. No worries Felicia! I don’t think you will have a problem finding enough virtuals. I will post any that I find in the FB group and I know others are doing the same!

Happy New Year! I have a feeling it’s going to be fabulous!

  31. Thanks for the great challenge! It was a great push for me!

  32. I am so sad that I missed out on 13 in 2013 but even if I had known about it I probably would not have thought I could accomplish that goal last year. This year after 9 months of running and several races I am ready for the challenge of 14 in 2014. In 2013 I found my love for running and in 2014 I am going to run, run, run!

    1. Sounds like a great plan!

Happy New Year Breanna! I have a feeling it’s going to be fabulous!

    1. Hi Sara, you could join and run virtual races as training runs. Tempting you 🙂

  33. I am going to GET out there and run before New Years Day! Love the idea of a virtual race, I have seen them before but I wasn’t really sure what they were exactly about!
Great prizes too! Sharing now! xo Tara

    1. Hi Tara. Did you end the year with a run? Thanks for sharing!

I’m looking forward to a fun I’m Fit Possible year!

  34. Alexis @ funrunning4life says:

So psyched I found this for 2014! I’ll be getting in a run today, so while I won’t be “racing” it, I think I will count it as my warm up race for the new year.

    1. Me too! I ran on 12/31 and then again on 1/1. A glimpse of my running year 🙂

  35. This was my first year of running, so I didn’t even try for 13 races! But I did get 6 in! I’m going for 14 in 2014! Hope everyone has a healthy happy 2014!

  36. You two are so awesome! I did not complete 13 in 2013 because I had some ideas in my head about running that I now believe are wrong (particular the expense) although I did spend quite a time running — it was my first year! I have 2014 planned with all 14 races so that seeing it all on paper and having the cost on an excel spreadsheet will help me think it through.

Thank you for being so supportive!

  37. LOVED the 13 in 2013 challenge! Met some great people, learned a lot, and performed much better than I had hoped. Bring on 2014!!!

    1. Awesome! That’s exactly why I started the challenge!

Happy New Year! I have a feeling it’s going to be fabulous!

  38. in a fact which is almost silly I became a RUNNING MENTOR in 2013.
