Detox – informal noun – short for detoxification
When I was given the green light to return to running one of the stipulations was no trails for a few more weeks. The extra few weeks ended on Sunday and except for wanting a little more time that morning it could not have been more perfect. I felt strong, refreshed, rejuvenated and relaxed.
I felt detoxed mentally and physically!
Not only was it my first trail run of fall 2013 but also my first run to try the Salomon Sense Mantra.
What Salomon dot com says:
Sense Mantra. A lightweight training shoe for forefoot and midfoot strikers who want natural motion, protection and neutral cushioning for high mileage training.
What does that mean for me?
They’re a perfect fit! Of all the trail shoes I’ve tried over the past year, the Sense Mantra is the lightest and not the least bit clunky feeling. The ground was wet and slick with mud in some spots. Not once did I loose my footing. And, maybe most important of all, the toe box rocks! I have a wide foot and I can’t tell you how hard it is to find a trail shoe that is low drop and comes in a wide width. Until now it has been impossible!
I always have my ultimate goal of running a 50 mile race in the back of my mind and I remember thinking I could definitely see myself running 50 miles in these shoes. They’re that comfortable. It was a short run so we’ll see if the shoe holds up to my expectations as the miles increase.
It was a morning I didn’t want to end. Unfortunately it was time to trade in my running shoes for the car. Time to play taxi driver for my kids.
What my week looked like:

10/12 – Rest Day
10/13 – 3.2 miles
