Given the choice of one or the other what would you choose?
Cardio – Any activity that increases heart rate and respiration while using large muscle groups repetitively and rhythmically (Source: Livestrong). And I would add to that definition, any activity that empowers you and makes you feel strong, invincible and like you can do anything.
Strength – The use of resistance to muscular contraction to build to build the strength, anaerobic endurance, and size of skeletal muscles (Source: Wikipedia). And I would add to that definition, any activity using resistance that makes me a better runner.
I love seeing the progress, increasing weights, and developing muscle definition with strength training. Granted, the ideal training plan includes both cardio and strength but if given the choice I’m going to choose cardio. More specifically, I’m going to choose running.
