Creating balance is a way to make things easier and more enjoyable and to be able to live life with more joy and contentment.
When your balance is off simple tasks feel more difficult and daily routines seem impossible. When life is over full there’s often very little space for the things that truly matter.
I started teaching yoga one year ago this month and an unexpected lesson learned has been I needed to create and maintain balance in my life. In the past I have strived for the elusive balance and have found it, but all too soon found life to be off kilter again.
When I started teaching yoga I taught my regular classes and I took every opportunity I could to sub classes for other teachers. There were weeks when I taught 6-8 classes. No surprise, life quickly felt off. I was physically and mentally tired which was clearly an indication that I wasn’t taking care of myself, albeit unintentionally.
If there is too much importance placed on any one aspect of life, our state of equilibrium shifts to one of imbalance, without us necessarily being aware of it. I knew that if I wanted to keep teaching yoga I had to make a change to create balance so that my actions were aligned with my priorities and values.
You have the power to create balance in your life:
MAKE YOUR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING A PRIORITY
It’s so easy to get caught up in the frenzy of life that we forget the love and care we need to give ourselves. Eat healthy, drink water, move often and get enough sleep. When you make self-care a priority, you’re more mentally and physically healthy and in a better position to meet the demands of a busy life.
Good relationships should not be taken for granted. They require give and take and care and maintenance. Spend quality time and give your undivided attention to those you love.
FIND TIME TO EXERCISE
When you’re inspired to make time to exercise you not only reap the physical benefits, but also much needed me time to alleviate the stress of everyday life and allow you to think clearer. Sometimes we have to reorganize and re-prioritize our lives so that we put our health first by making the time for regular exercise.
MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF
Even if it’s only 30 minutes, take time everyday to do something that you will enjoy. Do something just for you.
We are always looking to learn and grow and we all mess up and make mistakes. It’s important to maintain a sense of self-love and self-awareness and continue trying our best. Finding balance in life isn’t always easy and it’s important to look at what habits we have that tend to lead us to a state of imbalance.
When we create balance we have room for personal growth, positive energy, and relationships.
When your mind, body and spirit are in balance, the result is a sense of self knowing and empowerment which feels good and is good for you.
