Our thoughts are extremely powerful and, good or bad, they create our perspective of ourselves and the world around us.
I call my dad every Thursday and our conversations range from catching him up on what’s going on with his grandkids to, most recently, politics (we better stick to conversations about grandkids). Yesterday we talked about changing our thinking from being a glass half empty kind of person to a glass half full kind of person.
At first he was totally closed off to the idea of changing his outlook on life. He honestly didn’t think it was possible. I get it. Habits are hard to break and, at first, changing the way you think feels impossible. At some point during the conversation he started to come around to the possibility of making that kind of change.
Both positive and negative thoughts create energy. That energy is contagious and it’s the vibe you’re sending out to the world.
It can be easy to fall into a downward spiral of negative thinking and, positive or negative, our mindset has a strong impact on our happiness, well-being and success.
Benefits of Positive Thinking
- Less stress
- Lower rates of anxiety and depression
- Strengthened immune system
- Better coping skills
- Worry less
- Increased inspiration and creativity
- Increased happiness
- Higher levels of energy
- Increase confidence (stops limiting beliefs)
Positive thoughts can create an optimistic outlook on life and things we once thought to be impossible become possible.
Deciding to adopt an optimistic mindset and changing the habit of negative thinking isn’t always an easy task, and, (like I told my dad during our conversation), I practiced stopping negative thoughts. I did it over and over and over until it became habit and felt natural. I questioned myself and I challenged my negative beliefs.
You must master a new way to think before you can master a new way to be. ~Marianne Williamson
When we clear our mind of negativity we’re making more room for positivity.
How have I created a positive mindset and a happiness advantage?
- Re-frame situations to focus on the possibilities and not the limitations
- Surround yourself with positive people
- Try to see the good and beauty in everyone and everything
- Count your blessings
- Practice positive affirmations
- Do the things that bring you joy everyday
- Recognize negative thoughts and choose not to engage in it
- Use positive words when talking
By learning to recognize and redirect your mind away from the negative helps create a mindset for happiness and success.
When you make the decision to be positive and train your brain to see the good you’ll soon start to notice just how much good there is in the world.
A great attitude becomes a great day which becomes a great month which becomes a great year which becomes a great life. ~ Mandy Hale
If you’re still with me, thank you for reading.
Believe in the power or positive thinking.
If you’re mind and heart are open to the possibility, re-training your brain to think more positively can work. I’ve done it. My stress levels are next to nothing, I’m happier at my job, I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought possible (with more accomplishments to come) and being able to see the positives in day to day life is easier than ever.
I would love to chat.
Do you see the world positively? How do you create positivity in your life?
be the best version of YOU
