I Am Going To Bootcamp!

For the remainder of the year my running goals are still on track (can’t resist the pun haha) and will take me through the end of the year. Strength training goals? Not so much. After finishing 90 days of Les Mills Pump I was going to start another 90 days of P90X. Like with running I need a plan to keep me focused and consistent.

That’s where Tina Reale comes in. That’s Tina on the far left and she was my roommate at the Runner’s World Half and Festival. Tina is the owner of Best Body Fitness and Best Body Bootcamp. Ironically, I contacted Tina in August to get more information about the bootcamp workouts and how well they would work with running 4 days/week. I decided to put off joining until January. After meeting Tina in person and talking about BBBC I couldn’t wait to join! Being her roommate was a sign right? It was going to be exactly what I needed to 1. try something new and different and 2. to get me through the end of the year with cross training and strength training. Sign me up!

One week into BBBC and I love it! The weekly plan focuses on the total body with strength training and intervals for cardio all worked into a program that includes 3-4 days of running. Reading your weekly plan you might be tempted to think “this is easy”. You would be wrong! It’s the supersets that challenge and kick your butt by the end of the workout. I still feel like standing on the the upside down Bosu is a battle, but I’m getting better and there’s a little less wobbling every time I step onto it.

The one thing that Tina said that convinced me to join and has stuck with me since is that the program is not about who loses the most or who works out most often. It’s about your “best body“. It’s about progress and improvement from where you are personally instead of progress compared to others. I’m looking forward to the challenge of 7 more weeks of bootcamp!

Week 1 BBBC goals:

  1. Drink 64 ounces of water daily. Success!
  2. Take vitamins daily. Success!

Week 2 BBBC goals:

  1. Do a daily plank.
  2. Stretch for 20 minutes.

Watch for another BBBC update.

This is not a compensated post. Sharing my goals keeps me motivated and accountable and all opinions of BBBC are my own.

Have you ever been to bootcamp? Have you ever tried supersets? Do you create your own strength or cross training plan? Do you prefer DVD workouts or a written plan?

Great that it is working so well for you! i know I need more of this stuff in my life, which is why I just bought a Groupon for CrossFit. However, I’m not starting until after my marathon Dec. 2. I just can’t manage both at the same time!

I almost waited until Jan for the exact same reason. After bootcamp? Cross FIt! I think I finally found a box and will join in Jan. Can’t wait!

I’ve been going to bootcamp since January and the difference in my running and other sports is amazing. Also my body shape has changed dramatically. Once my big race is done in November, I will go back to 3x per week. Right now my training for the 1/2 ironman is so intense my legs, and shoulders can’t take more than 1x per week. I go to one in our local park, its outside, I train while the kids ride their bikes around. Costs $10 per session, no commitment you pay each time you go. So its not very structured in terms of goals, but its one heck of a workout and I love it! I hope you get as many benefits as I have.

Having that flexibility sounds perfect! I would love to join a boot camp IRL but having the convenience of boot camp and working out at home is great. Good luck with your big race!

I loved Boot camp last round! I am focusing a bit more on running right now, so I didn’t sign up. But I’m still going to pull out a few of those workouts. Enjoy it!

Hello! I am doing BBBC too!! Congrats on kickin’ butt on week one goals!! My week one goals were:
    1) Food Log: Success
    2) Foam Roll/Stretch every night: Success

    Week two goals are:
    1) NO sweets OR diet soda (I had a bad day with Cold Stone and Jordan Almonds yesterday…NO MORE, NO MORE!!)
    2) Nightly ab routine (I posed it on the BBBC facebook page if you’re interested! I saw you wanted to do nightly planks!! Those are involved!!!)

Good luck to you on your week two goals! Happy Monday!!

Thanks Amy! Congrats on your goal success of week 1! Some nights the planks just kick my butt. Other nights I feel like I can hold it forever :)

Those workouts sound really fun. I looked up Superset and they sound challenging but effective!
That Bosu ball – I used it during PT for my knee – it kicked my butt initially, but now it’s not so bad – the balance stuff is really great for you.
    Have a great week!

      Hi Shirley :)

I have a love hate relationship with the Bosu! Did you continue to use it after PT?

I totally understand that love hate feeling with that Bosu :-O
One of my exercises was to jump between two of them, alternating feet. I could only do that if I had a spotter because it is still easy for me to lose my balance
I still use the Bosu – there are several at the Y I belong to – it really is a great piece of equipment. I’d love to see what exercises you are doing on it!

That sounds great ! I really should get back to planking daily – I was doing so well at one stage with that !!!!
I have never done bootcamp – not sure I am up for it but I love the saying about how it is about being the best body for yourself and not comparing yourself to others – that is something I really need to work hard at doing !
    Have the best week !

Making it about competing with yourself instead of others is hard. I wonder why we do these things to ourselves?

I went to a boot camp by my gym a couple of times but it was very poorly run. He didn’t seem to have a plan dor the whole hour so the second half was spent listening to him say “ummm”. BBB sounds so much better!

I like tons of variaty so I have to say yes to all your other questions. ;-) Suoersets, make my own workout, take it feom a magazine, do a DVD…I like them all!
