Motivation Monday || Who You Think You’re Not

This past weekend we went to Terre Haute, IN to run my first endurance relay. As soon as we arrived Saturday morning I looked around and asked myself, “what am I doing here?” I’m surrounded by paid athletes, endurance runners, elite runners, and runners whose expertise is trail running. I felt like I was so out of my element. And yes intimidated by the athletic ability and experience that surrounded me. Then, just like that, I told myself you’re going to do this. You’re going to meet your goal. You’re going to give all that you have to give and run your own race. Last weekend was one of the greatest experiences ever and to think I could have missed it simply because of who I thought I wasn’t.

Race recap and photos coming soon!

Has this [or something similar] ever happen to you? Do you not try out of fear of failure?

This post could have been one of mine! I’m afraid of so many things but running helps me to overcome this. Running is so much more than just exercise! It changed my life :)

    Again, congrats!!!

I’m glad you had a great time!! Sometimes it is hard to not doubt ourselves when surrounded by others that we think are better than us, but you deserved to be there!

Awesome! I can’t wait to read all about it. Yes, there have been times I haven’t tried something because I thought I would embarrass myself. As I get older I realize more and more how these thoughts really limit life and I am open to try most anything. Way to go!

Jill, we are like brain twins. I just posted about the same thing! Seriously, why is it that we hold ourselves back out of fear!? When in reality, the experience usually turns out to be a great one, even if we are not as fast or strong or ____ (fill in the blank) as we wanted to be. I mean, I have never run a race and thought of it as a fail, even if it wasn’t perfect. It is still an experience, and usually it’s a great one!

This happens to me all the time, including this past week when I started my new job. I was sabotaging myself without knowing it because I kept asking myself what I was doing there. Can’t wait to see the pics and read the recap!
