Morning Runner

I’m a morning runner. I’m awake and up by 4:00. I enjoy morning coffee until sunrise and I’m out the door as soon as there is enough “comfortable” daylight to run by myself.

Why morning running?

  • It’s an energy boost to start the day.
  • Seeing the sunrise.
  • Optimal temps particularly during the summer.
  • The peace and quiet of early morning. Hearing nothing but my foot fall.
  • Starting the day with a feeling of accomplishment.
  • Rarely is an early morning run cancelled due to other commitments.
  • Morning is when I feel my best, strongest and most energized.
  • I enjoy watching and listening to the world waking up.
  • By 8:00 or so my run is done and I have the rest of the day ahead of me.
  • Typically, if I start early I have plenty of time. No rushing.
  • Balance. My kids and husband are still asleep so it makes balancing running time and family time easier.

Are you a morning runner? What is your favorite time of day to run or workout?

YES I AM! I love running in the wee early morning hours. The temps are just perfect and the watching the sunrise is such a wonderful reward.

I like running in the morning on the weekend, but not during the week… I am impressed by your 4 am wake up! I get up at 5:15 for work and can’t make myself get up earlier to fit a run in! And I am not super comfortable running by myself in those early morning hours (when it’s dark)… But on weekends, I love those early morning runs! I start at 7 and run with a running group, and it’s a great way to start the weekend!

Wow. I wish that I was a morning runner. It would probably make things a whole lot easier! I probably am more of a morning person, but I struggle to get up in the morning.

I love morning runs. I don’t have to worry about a meal disagreeing with me and I love the quiet of the streets. Your pictures are beautiful.

I run in the morning after the kids go to school. I really wish I could do what you do, get up at 4 and out the door. Then I could be showered and ready to go before the kids go to school. But, I am weak. I can’t seem to make myself get up that early. I am always impressed with those who do it. Great job!

I definitely enjoy going out in the morning. I can’t stand the heat in the latter part of the day. I also like that there’s less people out then.

I’m definitely a morning runner. I love getting it done early in the morning so I dont make excuses and end up not going out for a run. The times I do run at other times of the day it is always a tougher run/workout for me. I think my body is just likes to run in the morning/1

Me too! I was just thinking last night while running that my body feels so much better in the morning. It’s def tougher to get myself out the door in the evening after work.

I’m definitely a morning runner – out the door by 5am most days. I don’t wait for the light, but I am lucky to have a running partner who will get up at dark-thirty with me! I love knowing that I’ve already got my run in when I’m working my way through the day!

Hi Kathy. It’s that feeling of accomplishment that helps make getting up early easy. I wish I could run before daylight but I won’t run by myself in the dark. My husband will run early but not that early.

I prefer to run in the morning. I’ve gotten out of the routine and I’m struggling to get back in the swing of things. But I agree with your reasons for running in the morning…my day goes so much better when I get out the door early.

I’m a morning runner too, although I wish I had the energy to be a really early morning runner! Mine usually start by 6:30 or 7am, and that’s worked out well, although as it continues to heat up down here, I’ll be pushing myself to get out the door as early as possible. Not before 6am, though. Then I have energy for the morning, and drag through the afternoon. :)

I love morning runs! Like you said, it’s nice to have the YOU part of the day done with early so you can focus on others and not feel like you are missing out!
